COMMUNITY-POWERED BLUEPRINT
FOOD • CLEAN WATER • HOUSING • HEALTHCARE • JOBS • EDUCATION
CRITICAL RESOURCES ARE BECOMING HARDER FOR MANY COMMUNITIES TO ACCESS
NO ONE IS COMING TO FIX THIS FOR US.
This blueprint promotes a community-driven, bottom-up approach to preparedness that begins with the voices, experiences, concerns, and participation of everyday community members.
A GRASSROOTS COMMUNITY MOVEMENT
Community-Powered Blueprint is a grassroots community movement dedicated to helping communities:
-
Build stronger local connections
-
Organize community resources
-
Share knowledge and practical solutions
-
Strengthen preparedness before emergencies
-
Coordinate volunteers and local support
-
Improve resilience during times of uncertainty
It provides a practical framework communities can use to organize resources, share knowledge, strengthen preparedness, and support one another during times of uncertainty.
WHY NOW?
-
Critical resources are becoming harder for many communities to access.
-
Communities are increasingly expected to solve local challenges with limited outside support.
-
Stronger neighborhoods begin with prepared, connected people.
COMMUNITY PODS
THE 12 COMMUNITY PODS
(View Slides Above)
Each pod represents a critical need.
People in the community can participate in different ways:
-
support one or more pods
-
contribute when available
-
share skills or resources
-
help organize or teach
Examples:
• Farmers can help teach food growing and distribution
• Medical professionals can support healthcare needs
• Skilled workers can assist with repairs, building, and infrastructure
• Teachers and mentors can help educate and guide others
• Technology support can help communities stay connected
No one is expected to do everything.
Each person contributes where they can.

ABOUT

This is a community-powered blueprint—an anticipatory crisis management plan.
It is designed to help people come together, get organized, and support one another when access to basic needs becomes uncertain.
This plan focuses on simple, practical steps that communities can use to:
-
prepare
-
share resources
-
and work together

THE
REALITY

Funding for critical resources is changing.
Food.
Healthcare.
Housing.
Education.
Jobs.
Prices continue rising, while many families feel increasingly uncertain about the future.
Communities are being forced to adapt more quickly than expected.
Everyday people are trying to figure out how to move forward during uncertain times.
WHAT DO WE DO?
WHERE DO WE GO?
WHO IS GOING TO HELP US?
We hear this every day.
On the news.
Online.
In our communities.
People want practical solutions.
This blueprint was created to help communities prepare, organize, and support one another.

CRITICAL RESOURCES
FOOD • CLEAN WATER • HEALTHCARE • HOUSING • JOBS
• EDUCATION • COMMUNITY

Keeps communities fed through local farms, food banks, and shared resources.
Builds long-term food security through education, gardening, and local farming.
Provides access to basic medical care, supplies, and community health support.
SIMPLE
EXPLANATION

This plan is simple.
We don’t try to fix everything at once.
We work together in small groups.
Each pod focuses on one critical need.
That way:
-
no one is doing everything alone
-
resources can be shared
-
support can be organized
This is how communities prepare.
THE PLAN
This blueprint is designed to be:
• practical
• flexible
• community-based
• adaptable locally
Different communities have different needs, resources, and challenges.
This plan is intended as a starting point communities can build on together.

VOLUNTEER
-
The pods and examples listed are ideas and possibilities.
-
Organizations and groups mentioned have not agreed to participate.
-
This plan is meant to help communities organize themselves.
UNITY

This is not about politics.
This is about people.
When systems feel uncertain, communities become part of the answer.
We do not have to face difficult times alone.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Melissa Kaye Swaney holds a Master’s degree in Communication and Leadership and has formal training in crisis management planning.
She began developing this plan during a time of uncertainty, as rising costs and changes to essential resources began affecting everyday life for herself and those around her.
In looking beyond her own situation, she saw that many others—families, seniors, individuals with disabilities, and working people—were facing similar challenges.
This plan was created as a way to offer guidance, bring people together, and provide a simple, practical path forward.
At its core, it is built on one belief:
when systems are uncertain, people can support one another.
